The Altar Guild is an organization of confirmed women of the church who work closely with the priest in preparing the altar for all services, as well as the cleanup afterwards.
In addition, they are responsible for the care of the linens, brass, silver, candles, flowers, and any other properties pertaining to altar use. Altar guild members oversee the decoration of the church for the Christmas and Easter season and any other special celebrations. They are available to assist the priest in preparing for weddings and funerals held in the church.
At St. Stephen’s, membership is open to confirmed women who desire to serve. New members train with experienced members before being added to a committee. Each committee is on a monthly rotation and is generally served by at least four women.
Being on the altar guild is a commitment and ministry of faithfulness that gives you the opportunity to be part of the worship at St. Stephen’s.
